Transferring an existing ISA to InvestEngine is simple - and we'll handle most of the process for you. Whether you're moving a Cash ISA or a Stocks & Shares ISA, your tax benefits stay protected, and there’s no charge from us to receive the transfer. ISA transfers may have implications for your investments. Please consider all factors before deciding to transfer.
Step-by-step: Starting your ISA transfer
You can begin your transfer by logging in or opening an account, and choosing one of two routes:
- Select transfer an ISA from the dashboard
- Or select Create Portfolio or Transfer > Transfer an ISA
From there, you’ll complete our online transfer form - here’s what it involves:
Step 1: Check your personal details
Before you begin, check that your name, address, and National Insurance number are correct in your account.
These must match what your existing provider has on file, or your transfer may be delayed.
If anything needs updating, contact our support team before submitting your form.
Step 2: Choose where to transfer the ISA
You’ll be asked to:
- Select an existing DIY ISA portfolio, or
- Create a new one to receive the cash or investments
ISA transfers can only go into DIY portfolios - they can’t be sent directly into a Managed or LifePlan portfolio (currently, Managed and LifePlan portfolios are unavailable while we make updates). Once cash from your ISA transfer is in your account, you can move it into a Managed or LifePlan portfolio - read more about moving money between portfolios here.
Step 3: Enter your current ISA details
You’ll need to fill in:
- Your existing ISA provider (select from a dropdown)
- Your ISA account or reference number
Make sure these details are correct. If you're unsure of your account number, check your latest statement or contact your current provider to confirm.
Step 4: Choose how much to transfer
You can transfer:
- All of your ISA from this provider (including all past and current year contributions), or
- Part of your ISA
If you select "Part of my ISA", you’ll be asked:
- Do you want to transfer current year contributions?
- Do you want to transfer previous years’ ISAs (all or part)?
Be as accurate as possible — we use this to structure your ISA correctly.

Step 5: Understand in-specie vs cash
If your existing ISA holds investments we don’t support (including assets that aren’t ETFs, for example, individual stocks or shares), they’ll be sold and transferred to InvestEngine as cash.
We support in-specie ISA transfers for most ETFs - but only into DIY portfolios, and subject to your current provider’s process.
Read more about in specie transfers here.
Step 6: Confirm and submit
You’ll be asked to:
- Review a summary of your request
- Confirm you’ve read and accepted the declaration
- Authorise InvestEngine to communicate with your current provider
If your current provider supports electronic transfers, that’s all you need to do.
If a manual signature is required, we’ll prompt you to complete a separate digital form.
Step 7: Track your ISA transfer
Once submitted, you can track your progress in your portfolio dashboard:
| Stage | What it means |
| Valuation | Waiting for your provider to confirm the value of your account |
| Transfer | Transfer has been requested with your provider |
| Settlement | Funds or assets are being transferred to InvestEngine |
| Completion | Your ISA funds have been received and allocated to your portfolio |
You’ll also see your previous ISA company’s name, reference number, and an estimated completion date.
ISA cash and encashed assets will first appear in your ISA Cash Portfolio.
Once your transfer completes…
- If AutoInvest is enabled, your money will be invested automatically
- If AutoInvest is off, you’ll need to:
- Go to your ISA portfolio
- Click Invest to place the order
- If you transferred ETFs in-specie, you will need to reset your portfolio weights manually
