Why We Verify
We’re authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which means we’re required to:
- Confirm your identity
- Verify your UK residency and address
- Check your linked bank account
- Monitor for signs of fraud or financial crime
We do not carry out a credit check.
Your credit score will not be affected by opening an InvestEngine account. Our checks are solely for identity verification purposes.
What Happens During Verification
1. Automatic checks
When you sign up, we try to verify your identity and address automatically using secure electronic systems. This usually takes just a few seconds.
2. If more information is needed
If we can’t verify your details automatically, we may ask you to upload:
- A valid photo ID (passport or UK driving licence)
- A recent bank statement or utility bill (as proof of address)
- A digital copy (PDF or screenshot) of your UK current account
- A selfie or short video to confirm your identity
📌 Please note: Documents must be original digital files- we’re unable to accept photos taken of a screen.
3. Bank account verification
We’ll also verify your linked bank account to confirm:
- It’s a UK current account
- It’s in your name
- It matches the personal details on your account
A PDF bank statement may be requested to complete this step.
How Long Does It Take?
Most clients are verified within a few minutes. If we need to review your documents manually, this may take up to one working day.
We’ll always keep you updated by email if anything else is needed.
How We Keep Your Data Safe
Your documents are stored securely in encrypted systems and can only be accessed by trained members of our team. We’ll never share your information or use it for marketing.
