As a regulated investment platform, InvestEngine is required by law to verify the identity of all clients. This helps us protect your account, prevent fraud, and meet our obligations under UK financial regulations.
We take this responsibility seriously – and we only ask for information that is necessary to keep you and your money safe.
Why identity checks are required
We request identification documents to:
- Comply with Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) anti-money laundering (AML) and know your customer (KYC) requirements
- Prevent identity fraud or unauthorised access
- Ensure we’re only offering our services to clients who are eligible to invest with us
- Keep your account secure
These checks are standard across all FCA-authorised platforms and financial services firms in the UK.
When you’ll be asked to provide ID
You may be asked to verify your identity:
- When you first open an account
- If we can’t confirm your identity automatically
- When linking a new bank account
- If there’s a change to your personal details
- Or in rare cases, if required as part of an internal or regulatory review
What we might ask for
To verify your identity, we may request:
- A valid photo ID, such as a passport or UK driving licence
- A proof of address document, such as a bank statement or utility bill (must show your name and address clearly)
- A digital bank statement (PDF or screenshot) when verifying a UK bank account
- A selfie or short video, to confirm your ID matches your photo
💡 We’re unable to accept images taken of a screen – documents must be submitted as clear PDFs or original digital screenshots.
How we handle your documents
Your privacy and security are always our top priority. All documents are:
- Stored securely using encrypted systems
- Only accessed by authorised members of our team
- Never used for marketing or shared without your consent
