Why have I received this email from InvestEngine?
You have received this email because, following a recent review of our client records, we identified that we may not hold a valid Tax Identification Number (TIN) for your account.
Under EU regulatory requirements, we are required to collect and maintain valid tax identification details for clients who are citizens of certain countries, including Spain and Italy.
This request is part of our ongoing compliance obligations and helps ensure your account remains fully active and compliant.
Is this email genuine?
Yes. The email has been sent by InvestEngine as part of a compliance review.
The email may have been sent from onboarding@investengine.com, even if you opened your account some time ago. This is because our onboarding and compliance teams manage requests relating to identity verification and regulatory information updates.
If you are unsure whether an email is genuine:
- Check that the sender address ends in @investengine.com
- Do not share passwords or login credentials
- You can contact our support team directly through the InvestEngine app or website to verify the request
Why are you asking for this now if I’ve had my account for years?
Financial services firms are required to keep client information accurate and up to date on an ongoing basis.
As part of a recent internal review, we identified that some accounts may have incomplete or incorrect National Client Identifier information recorded. We are therefore contacting affected clients to update our records.
What is a TIN?
TIN stands for Tax Identification Number.
It is a government-issued number used to identify taxpayers and is required for regulatory reporting purposes.
For Italian citizens, the TIN is called a Codice Fiscale.
It is a 16-character alphanumeric code and can usually be found on:
- Your health card
- Italian identity card
- Residence permit
- Official tax documents
For Spanish citizens, the TIN is usually called a NIF.
It typically consists of:
- 8 digits
- Followed by 1 letter
You can usually find it on your Spanish ID card or official tax documents.
What happens if I don’t provide it?
If we are unable to obtain the required information, your account may become restricted or subject to further review in line with our regulatory obligations and Terms and Conditions.
We therefore encourage you to provide the requested information as soon as possible.
How should I send my TIN?
Please reply directly to the email you received and provide the requested TIN.
For security reasons:
- Only provide the requested TIN
- Do not send passwords, PINs, or banking credentials
- If possible, avoid sending unnecessary personal documents unless specifically requested
I am not a Spanish or Italian citizen. What should I do?
If the nationality recorded on your account is incorrect, please contact us and let us know. We will review and update your account information where appropriate.
